Female loses her leg after sepsis developed from blister caused by sandal

It was so much worse for Gemma Downey, unfortunately, as the model found itself in hospital with sepsis from an infection induced by a blister from a fresh set of sandals.

When the 23-year-old feels the scratching of her espadrille platforms against her heels as she walked to the train station, she chose what any of us would do and turned into a more pleasant pair.

“It began as my sandals rubbed on my foot’s side, it kind of cracked the skin like a slice,” she said.

“It looked like it was forming a small blister at some point. I had a plaster on because I didn’t believe it was important, but subsequently I noticed it had a weird color. It came down from there.”

“I began to notice that I wasn’t able to move correctly and was limping and in pain much more than usual. My foot had swelled upright and traveled around my ankle area, and the pain was terrible,” she explained.

“I am very fortunate to have been found soon in my situation,” she clarified. “So many times I’ve had that, I just didn’t believe about it. So many times, particularly with fresh shoes.”

I’m wondering if it’s happening to me, I’d like to inform other females about it, I want them to understand if they’re getting a blister and feeling terrible, trust their feelings and get it checked out.
